INAIA and Your School
We give special thanks to the National Museum of the American Indian in
Washington D.C. for their gift of a Teacher's Education Pack.

The INAIA has a history of helping schools with their projects about Native
Americans.  We are pleased to act as unpaid advisers and consultants. We can
lend written materials and artifacts, music cassettes etc at no lending fee, we
only ask for postal costs to be paid.

We can also provide simple designs and ideas such as templates for colouring
and cutting out. These templates include canoes, tipis and containers.

Where possible we will arrange for a visit by someone from the INAIA or a contact
to assist. In the event of the INAIA giving details of anyone not of the INAIA we
emphasise that we are an introductory agency and have no responsibility for any
dealings between the school and that person(s).
Our intention is to help make a school project informative and educational and
most of all fun. We do this with the aim of eliminating stereotypes and
misunderstandings.

We do not try to be academic or patronising, we remember that we are working
with children and that teachers are the professionals. The INAIA only offers
guidance and assistance.

We will help teachers formulate their project especially by introducing  native
cultures other than the stereotypical Plains Indian.
Suggested Classroom Project
  • Divide the pupils into four or more groups.

  • Allocate each group a different tribe or cultural area.

  • Encourage the children to use the internet for research.

  • Each group will make a class presentation about their topic (we know of
presentations made by pupils to school assemblies and community groups)
Teachers are invited to contact us, by email or telephone – Barrie
Cox-Dacre is usually available most afternoons, evenings and
weekends – (he really does need to get out more).

We will not by-pass the opportunity to recruit members – teachers
are INVITED to join the INAIA – but not compulsory!!
